Don’t let your family memories fade away! The Memory Maker Lab at the Livingston County Library provides the equipment you need to convert aging photos, slides, film, VHS tapes, and audio cassettes into digital files you can save and share.
The Memory Maker Lab is a do-it-yourself digitization space located in the basement of the Main Library. Staff is available to answer questions and provide basic instruction, but YOU complete the process.

Before Your Visit
Please remember:
- Appointments are recommended.
- Sessions are limited to 3 hours.
- Save your files to your own USB drive or external hard drive.
- Memory Lab computers are wiped after every session.
- No food or drinks are permitted.
- The lab is intended for personal, non-commercial use.
Who Can Use the Memory Maker Lab?
To use the Memory Maker Lab:
- Users must be 18 years or older (or accompanied by a parent or guardian).
- Library cardholders must have an account in good standing.
- Visitors must present a valid photo ID.
- All users must complete a consent form before using the equipment.
How to Reserve the Memory Maker Lab
Appointments can be made by:
- Calling the Main Library at 660-646-0547
- Visiting the circulation desk in the basement of the Main Library at 450 Locust St.
- Walk-ins are welcome when equipment is available.
Helpful Tips
To get the most out of your appointment:
- Bring your own USB flash drive or external hard drive.
- Gather all of the media you’d like to convert beforehand.
- Review our *instructional guides* before your appointment.
- Allow extra time or split into chunks if you’re working with large collections, as sessions are only 3 hours long.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience?
No. The Memory Maker Lab is designed for beginners.
Will staff digitize my items for me?
No. Staff can provide basic guidance, but the lab is self-service.
Can I save files on the library computers?
No. Files are deleted after each session, so you’ll need to bring your own storage device.
Can I walk in without an appointment?
Yes, if equipment is available.

Livingston County Library Memory Lab Participant Release
The Memory Lab at Livingston County Library is an innovative, creative, collaborative, and educational space with access to advanced software and emerging technologies. In consideration for participation in the activities of Livingston County Library, Patron/Visitor/Participant agrees to the following waiver and release:
- Assumption of Risk. Participant acknowledges the inherent risks in the use of equipment, devices, and hazardous materials of any kind commonly used in electronics construction, fabrication, software design, and other technology-related activities and that Participant’s participation in such activities and/or use of such tools may result in injury, illness, death, or damage to Participant or Participant’s personal property. Further, such risks and dangers may be caused by Participants, Guests, or other Participants. Finally, such injury, illness, death, or damage to Participant or Participant’s personal property may arise from foreseeable or unforeseeable causes including, without limitation, electrocution, burns, or slip and fall injuries. Participants hereby fully assume all such risks and any others which arise because of Participant’s use of Livingston County Library’s Memory Lab.
- Release of Liability. Participant releases Livingston County Library, its officers, agents, volunteers, board members and assigns from all liability whatsoever arising out of any damage, loss, or injury to Participant or Participant’s property while participating in any activity on the premises of Livingston County Library and/or using any equipment owned by Livingston County Library or another member or guest of Livingston County Library regardless of whether such loss or injury is as a result of the negligence of Livingston County Library or its members, guests, agents, volunteers and assigns, or is a result of some other cause. Livingston County Library is not responsible for the loss of or damage to personal property brought into the Memory Lab.
- Covenant Not to Sue. Participant agrees that Participant will not, under any circumstances, initiate any legal action against Livingston County Library, its members, volunteers, guests, agents, and assigns, nor will Participant assist in the prosecution of any such legal action filed by another, arising out of an injury to the person or property of Participant while participating in the activities contemplated by use of Livingston County Library. This covenant extends to include the heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns of Participants.
- Third Party Indemnification. Participant indemnifies, saves, and holds harmless Livingston County Library, its members, volunteers, agents and assigns from all losses, claims, actions, or proceedings of every kind and character which may be initiated by any other persons or organizations, and which arise directly or indirectly from the actions of Participant while engaged in the activities contemplated by membership in Livingston County Library.
